SBBGC CODE OF CONDUCT

  • I hereby pledge to provide support, care and encouragement for my child while he/she is participating in ALL activities of South Bowie Boys and Girls Club by following this Parent Code of Conduct.
  • In respect to the sport, I will:
  • do my very best to make youth sports FUN for my child/children.
  • recognize parents are the most important role models for their children and youth sports help to develop a sense of teamwork, self-worth and sportsmanship, so I will encourage my child/children to play by the rules and respect the rights of others.
  • acknowledge it is just as important on the athletic field/gym to enforce rules of play and set of standards as necessary components of both athletics and life
  • demonstrate as well as encourage good sportsmanship by demonstrating positive support for all players, coaches and officials at every game, practice or other youth sports events.
  • place the emotional and physical well-being of my child ahead of my personal desire to have his/her team to win
  • remember that the sport/game is for youths, not adults.
  • as well as encourage my child/children to play by the rules, respect the game officials’ decisions and will not publicly criticize a game officials’ ruling during or immediately after a game.
  • In respect to the coaches, I will:
  • support coaches and officials working with my child in order to encourage a positive and enjoyable experience for all.
  • require that my child’s coach be trained in the responsibilities of being a youth sports coach and that the coach upholds the Coaches Code of Conduct.
  • address my concerns about my child not during practices or games
  • refrain from publicly criticizing a coach/volunteer, but understand that there are means of addressing concerns with the coaching/volunteering staff in a positive manner without public confrontation or in the presence of the youth/players.
  • In respect to the organization, I will:
  • demand a sports environment for my child that is free from drugs, tobacco and alcohol and will refrain from their use at all sports events and practices.
  • remain off of the field/court of play during practices and games.
  • insist that my child play in a safe and healthy environment.
  • be responsible for all family members, friends and other spectators who are attending South Bowie Boys and Girls Club events and encourage them to follow all of the guidelines listed in this code of conduct.
  • as well as encourage my child to refrain from:
  • physically attacking anyone,
  • using inappropriate or vulgar language,
  • attempting to or making threatening gestures to cause bodily harm towards another player, coach, volunteer or another parent.
  • as well as encourage my child to treat other players, coaches, fans and officials with respect regardless of race, sex, creed or ability.
  • remember players play, coaches coach and parents watch.
  • I hereby pledge to live up to the Code of Conduct for the South Bowie Boys and Girls Club. I understand that when a breach of the code of conduct is brought to the attention of the Commissioner:
  • the Commissioner will contact the parent and all complaining parties to clarify the situation.
  • depending on the magnitude of the problem or parties involved, can bring the problem to the Athletic Director who can elevate it to the Executive Board or the full Board of Directors.
  • the Commissioner/Athletic Director/BOD, after hearing all the details from the parents and complaining parties, may then decide to:
  • dismiss the complaint
  • give a verbal warning
  • suspend the party from practices and/or games
  • with full Board approval, to bar the family from South Bowie Boys and Girls Club.
